• Outreach, intervention, social dynamics, global strategy, and visibility.
  Intervention and real social dynamics: by transforming relationships, we can transform society. Building autonomous spaces, linking our autonomous networks to our everyday experience. We need to get over our “activist” identity that separates us from “the outside world”.
  Sarah, with the Anarchist Travelling Circus: focus on next year’s G8 in France. Link Global Days of Action with local struggles and help people do actions at home, travel through UK and France, visiting activist camps and social centres. Call for other caravans to converge on Geneva.
  Dean, with New Forms of Civil/Social Disobedience: Radical Dairy Social Centre, a free and open space in UK, was able to continue existing because of community support. Coordinate a Social Centre against the Arms Fair (DSIE), and solidarity action this december across Europe to support the Argentine uprising.
  
• From Welfare State to Control State
  Aude: Redefine the question of repression and social control from a defensive tactic to offensive. We need to coordinate different antirepression struggles and legal-teams across Europe, with a global critique of social control: society stigmatizes groups so as to legitimize social control. We need local actions such as opening free zones to focus public discourse on the mechanisms of social control (surveillance, criminalization, etc.) One project is to create a web-based network to gather information on repression, giving people tools to facilitate communication (technical, theoretical, and for concrete actions).
  
  Luciano: autonomy of the movement, forms of organization, welfare state to control state, necessity to create alternative structures…
  
• Private Property vs. the Commons
  We have been able to draw a lot of attention in Europe to the frustrations and lack of trust people have with capitalism and its tools of control (banks, multinationals). The strategy of the counter-summits is reaching the limits of its usefulness: we need to move toward reappropriation. The basis of capitalism is private property. To resist this, there are actions such as YoMango (liberating merchandise); payment on a voluntary basis and give-away shops; expanding global access to information, services and products; and attacking the spaces of private property.
  YoMango: new strategy. Action: take things for free in daily life, and create mass actions to liberate of images and desires (and the objects that represent them) from corporations. December 21st, global day of disobedience. October 18, media democracy day.
  Florence (Free Shops): seven came to share experiences, theory, and plans from across Europe. Issues of controversy: money circulation in giveaway shops, giveaway shops in squats, limits, and rules. We decided to create a network, newsletter, and mailing list to continue discussion and collaboration.
  Olivier (Organizing from Within): to create challenges from within capitalist systems. Examples, workers’ struggles for better working conditions and relations to counter the social mechanization of work (not necessarily union-based). Most of us have some shit capitalist job, and we should be the first to make trouble on the job. The worse and worse working conditions that have been imposed upon us over the past 15 years represent the concrete way that capitalist globalization has affected us personally. This enables us to transform social relations and question our “activist” identity: it’s much more difficult to talk politics at work than with other activists.   Loren (water workshop): water is a basic connection between local and global struggle. Everybody understands water privatization, lack of water, and big water projects such as dams. It is important to connect this to broader anticapitalist discourse. It affects both rich and poor countries, but the effects are different and so must the struggles be different. Cochabamba: water struggles campaign. We created a mailing list in the Strasbourg NOBORDER camp to exchange dialogue on existing struggles and to create new ones. AGP webpage on water struggle.
  Niko: gender was supposed to be part of every debate. Many European activists are white, middle-class men and boys, educated to argue with confidence. People lack cultural education that would give them the tools of activist discourse (such as information-technological know-how). Patriarchal structures: Actions and activist media focus on high-confrontation “glory shots” rather than the support work that is going on all the time. We always say we are antisexist, but we do not focus on our inherent, internal, patriarchalism. We leave the antisexist initiatives to women, and then get defensive when they take initiative. Sex/gender/sexuality relations need to be an integral part of all our global discourse, to transform social power relationships and liberate men as well as women. Our culture of the last 2000 years has been one of competition. Therefore the culture we oppose is also within us. It may be useful to look at other discussions such as the environment: maybe we could learn from these.
  There are very few non-Europeans and people of color among us, and among the few workshops on African issues, very few people attended or were informed. We need to realize that racism, like sexism, is not something outside of our community but the default within our everyday interactions and something we need to question in ourselves every day. White people need to sit down, shut up, and listen (See the PGA Conference Forum website for more information. http://www.pgaconference.org #Forum.)
  Our critique of the Welfare State comes from a privileged background: realize that many depend on it.
